Generative AI reports in Google Search Console

Google has added a “Generative AI” performance report to Google Search Console. For the first time you can see which of your pages Google is citing in its AI-generated answers. It’s a useful start, with some big gaps, and there’s a separate WordPress 7.1 issue worth knowing about while you’re in there.

What the generative AI report shows

Generative Ai Features Performance Report In Google Search Console

The report sits in the Performance section of Search Console. Basically it enables you to see which pages Google is citing in its AI snippet answers.

The report is fairly sparse on data with just impressions showing. It’s a good start but not particularly actionable without clicks and click through rate data. In any case, it’s worth a look to see which of your pages are turning up inside AI answers and which aren’t.

Google’s announcement has more detail on the report.

Problems with WordPress 7.1 and WP Rocket

A quick heads up on something unrelated to Search Console. We spent a week battling issues with WordPress 7.1 and WP Rocket. A WP Rocket update was causing fatal errors on some sites and knocking them offline.

WP Rocket has patched the issue, but if your site is affected you might need to do a manual WP Rocket update to fix it.

The generative AI report won’t change how you do SEO yet, but it’s the first official signal from Google about what gets pulled into AI answers, so check it occasionally and watch for clicks data to arrive.
